Several local authorities are attempting to support private residential landlords by holding special events and seminars throughout the year.
Somerset is holding its first ever Private Sector Landlords Exhibition on Wednesday, 15 July, and it has attracted the support of all five Somerset local authorities.
They are Mendip District Council, Sedgemoor in Somerset; West Somerset Council; South Somerset District Council; Taunton Deane Borough Council.
The free event in the Auction Centre in North Petherton is open from 4-9pm and is aimed at landlords, letting agents and anyone considering entering the private rental market.
The Expo aims to help landlords in all aspects of the private rented sector and will provide them with a range of advice and information from financial services, fire safety, and energy efficiency to property maintenance, management and improvements.
For more information contact Hazel Davidson at Mendip District Council 01749 648999 or for further information download the poster or view the event.
Carmarthenshire County Council recently held a training course in Llanelli for local landlords and letting agents.
The local authority’s Home Improvement Team organised the event at the Discovery Centre in Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park.
The course was well attended with representatives mainly from Carmarthenshire letting agents and local landlords Foundation Housing, and a representative from the Carmarthenshire Bond Scheme.
Organiser, Environmental Health Officer Mark Thomas, said: “The feedback from the day was very positive.
Landlords who attended the course can now apply to accredit their properties for the highest award, gold.
“The course is just one criterion for letting agents to become accredited themselves and is the first step in showing that accredited letting agents are well informed with up-to-date information and are working with the local authority to provide a good service and good quality property that is well managed.

Herefordshire Council has also recognised the role that the private rented sector plays in helping to meet housing need by working in partnership with private landlords and agents to promote good practice and encourage the provision of sustainable, good quality accommodation.
The Council has organised landlord's events to discuss issues relating to private renting, to share information and to enable landlords to network with others in the same field.
The events are directed towards private landlords renting out one or more properties in the district, professional landlords and letting agents, plus individuals considering renting out a property they own.
The council’s recently held another of its Private Sector Landlord's Events when officers from the Housing Team and housing benefits were available to answer queries and to provide information. Representatives from a number of other organisations relating to private landlords also gave presentations.
